Christopher Malloy, a 32-year-old Australian helicopter pilot, has slashed all his savings into the " airplane " project that took him two and a half years to complete. His innovative product, nicknamed " Hoverbike ", can reach a height of 3km above the ground and speeds up to 160km / h.

Malloy's fans have compared his product with " speeding cars " in cinematic " Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi " or the cars flying in the movie " Back to the future ".

According to the Daily Mail , the former helicopter pilot made an amazing machine in his Sydney garage through the use of a custom carbon fiber airframe and a BMW engine. This hybrid design is capable of continuously moving up to 148km or about 45 minutes with just a full fuel tank and is expected to cost more than $ 70,000.

So far, the 270kg Hoverbike car has only been tested when it is still tied on the ground to prevent it from flying too high. However, Mr. Malloy plans to soon test the capabilities of the airplane in an unlimited way.

Mr. Malloy did not want to disclose how much he spent exactly on the ambitious project, but said it cost him about $ 224 a week. According to the amateur inventor, the basic operating principle of Hoverbike is similar to that of a Chinook helicopter and a regular motorbike.
