The lake boils all year round on the island of Dominica

A year-round lake in the Dominican National Park disappeared due to volcanic eruptions and reappeared after only one day.

Dominica boiling lake in Morne Trois Pitons park in the island nation of Dominica on the Caribean Sea is a large gas hole cracked from the Earth's crust, according to Amusing Planet.

The color is grayish green and always boils at a temperature of about 90 ° C as the gas escapes from the molten lava below. The lake is always covered by steam rising like a giant boiling pot of water. The lake is 76 meters in diameter, is the second largest boiling lake in the world after Lake Frying Pan in Waimagu Valley, near Rototua, New Zealand.

Ho was first discovered in 1875 by two Britons working in Dominica. Later that year, the local government sent a botanist and one of the two discoverers to study this natural phenomenon. They measured the water temperature and found that the water always reached 82 to 92 ° C in all positions but it was impossible to accurately measure the water temperature in the middle of the lake because they were always seething. The lake is estimated to be at least 60m deep.

The lake water is always full because the annual rainfall here is quite high and there are two small streams flowing into the area. Water seeps into the lava and is heated until it reaches boiling temperature. Therefore, the lake water level constantly fluctuates.

This lake disappeared after a volcanic eruption in the neighborhood in 1880, becoming a hot water and gas nozzle. In 2004-2005, the area's surface had many big changes. The ground suddenly collapsed 10m deep and the lake reappeared after only one day.

The lake is located above the groundwater in the area, so it is often drained and filled quickly.

Geologists believe that the lake is located above the groundwater in the area, so it is often drained and filled quickly. Steam or gas flows continuously from the magma rising slowly to push the water into the lake. An interrupted gas supply can cause the lake to run out of water.

Morne Trois Pitons National Park is an area with many active volcanoes. With an area of nearly 7,000 hectares, the park has five volcanoes, dozens of hot springs, and gas holes, but the most notable is the boiling lake all year round.
