The mystery of famous cities thought to be forgotten but suddenly appeared

In the multitude of ancient legends of the world, the city of Atlantis or the golden city of El Dorado is considered to be myths created by human imagination.

However, unexpectedly, many places in that legend turned out to be real! The explorers found a few 'forgotten' cities and proved that ancient stories in fact also had some truth.

Here is a list of legendary cities that were discovered unexpectedly and surprised the whole world.

1. Helike

Helike is widely believed to be the city of Atlantis.

According to Greek mythology, Helike is a city that was sunk in the sea after only one night under the wrath of the sea god Poseidon. So far many people still believe that it is the legendary city of Atlantis.

It is believed that Helike was wiped out in 373 BC and for hundreds of years it was still thought to be a fairy tale, until it was suddenly discovered in the late 1980s.

Archaeologists say the cause of the sinking is due to an intense earthquake liquefying rock and soil, turning the ground into water. Perhaps that was what made the ancients think it was the punishment of Poseidon.

2. Sigiriya

Sigiriya has been recognized as the 8th Wonder of the world.

Back in time until the 5th century, in Sri Lanka, King Kassapa thought that the most suitable place to build his royal palace was on the roof of a giant stone block 200m high.

Legend has it, this is one of the most magnificent castles in the world and today UNESCO has recognized Sigiriya as the 8th Wonder of the world. However, for a long time, this place is just a forgotten ruin.

3. Vinland

In 1073 AD, a German monk named Adam from Bremen heard Danish king Sven Estridson talk about brave Vikings.

The Vikings once owned a rich and beautiful place.

According to the king, the Vikings crossed the Atlantic Ocean and created a distant land where everything grew tremendously rich.'It is called Vinland, because the grape here has grown wildly.'

Vinland has been said to be a Viking legend for centuries. It wasn't until the 1960s that we knew they were telling the truth.

Then, at L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland (Canada), archaeologists found the remains of a Viking settlement since the 19th century. And surprisingly, it was the city of Vinland that they have heard a lot of words for a long time.

Although there are no jewels and jewels, this is an important historical relic.

Fate did not smile at Hernan Cortes, who almost discovered the gold store belonging to the Monkey God.
Hernan Cortes, a general serving Spain, in the quest for gold heard rumors about a city full of gold hidden in the Honduran mountains and became greedy to blindness.

He tried to scour the White City - or the City of the Monkey God, but ended up not finding it; so the story of the White City is only considered to be no more or less a legend.

Then, to the surprise of archaeologists, a group of locals said they found the White Castle. When they arrived at the directions, they were stunned to see a city appear, with a pyramid lying hidden in the rainforest.

Although there are no jewels, this is an important historical relic, the work of a forgotten civilization that disappeared 1,000 years ago.
