Orit Shamir, manager at Israel's Monuments Authority, and Naama Sukenik, a graduate student at Bar-Ilan University, published a study which compared the materials obtained during the process of exploring the Dead Sea.

They compared the white linen found in caves with other documents found in ancient Israeli territory. They discovered that some parts of the material were bleached, even though the fabrics from this time were found to have vivid colors.

However, some people disagree with this inference.

They believed that linens could belong to the people fleeing the Roman army after Jerusalem collapsed in the 70s. And maybe they were the ones who hid the scroll into the cave.

Shamir and Sukenik focused on studying 200 paragraphs of text found in caves. They found that the sheets were made of flax fiber, while wool was the most variable material of the time.

Shamir said that the cloths were found at locations where people were under great pressure when attacked by the Roman army.
