The two-meter-high stone balls confused the researcher

Scientists still don't know how thousands of stone balls are taller than adults on a Russian island.

The giant two-meter-high rockballs found on Champ Island near the pole, the Siberian Times reported on July 12. Countless perfect round stones scattered throughout the uninhabited northern island. Visitors who nicknamed the rocky beach were "God's balls".

The 374km 2 empty island has never been inhabited and scientists are sure they are not artificial products, although they have not yet agreed how they form. Many similar but smaller stone balls were discovered last year on Heiss Island belonging to the same archipelago.

"The spheres are made of soft sandstone . You can see many big spheres cracked into two halves and the largest stone on the island is breaking from year to year," said polar Russian researcher. Viktor Boyarsky said.

"They look like artificial objects, but in fact, it was a stone formed thousands of years ago by the later crystallization and magnetization of sand grains. The sand grains hardened and created a rather dense spherical shape. On Heiss Island, spherical crystals look like round bullets or cannon bullets, we found spheres in many different sizes but no big specimens like Champs, "said researcher Konstantin Zaikov. at Arctic Federal University explained.

However, geologist Sepp Fridhubera thinks that the round shape of the rocky beach is the result of underwater formation . According to Fridhubera, they have organic cores in the middle.
