The world's first successful penis transplant guy has children

After the transplant, the South African boy was able to perform the physiological function of a man as usual. His unmarried wife was pregnant for the fourth month.

The first successful penile transplant in the world had children

Andre van der Merwe, the surgeon told ABC News that the boy's fiancée announced she was pregnant for the fourth month. That shows that the graft penis worked very well.

Earlier, the 21-year-old South African boy lost "little boy" in a failed circumcision . Those who performed the traditional ritual cut off the first part, making his penis just one centimeter away. Since then this guy can't have sex.

The surgeon at the University of Stellenbosch and the Tygerberg Hospital took 9 hours to mount a person's donation to the boy. The surgery was successful. Dr. Van der Merwe said he was "very pleased" to hear that the boy's girlfriend was pregnant. They do not need testing to verify their father and son blood relationship because there is no reason to doubt the fidelity between the couple.

The boy himself thought he was infertile because the penis and testicles were gone. However, the surgeon had fully assembled the parts so that he could perform the function of a man like many other men. "This is exactly what we calculate: Patients can stand up, urinate and have sex. It is an important milestone for him," said Dr Van der Merwe.

The above surgery method is considered a breakthrough. When the penis is donated to a boy, the surgical team has applied a number of techniques studied for face transplants such as connecting blood vessels and tiny nerves.

Dr Van der Merwe said the surgery team might consider implementing more similar penis transplants in the future. There have been many attempts at penis transplantation, such as in China. Many surgeries went well but then the replacement penis was removed.

Doctors say South Africa is the country with the greatest demand for penile implants. Every year there are dozens to hundreds of cases of penile disability or death after traditional circumcision.
