Diamond is exploited by Lucara Diamond Group at Karowe and Botswana mines in November 2015. Specialists in gemstones consider diamonds to be about 2.5 to 3 billion years old.

Our Light will be chopped and polished. Representatives of Graff Diamonds, the company that bought the diamond, said the fabrication will be done in great detail to retain the distinctive beauty of the diamond.

Lucara Diamond used to bring Our Light to auction in June 2016. However, the unexpected low price offered by the auctioneers made the company cancel the intention to sell diamonds.

With a volume of 1,109 carats, Our Light is currently the largest rough diamond in the world. This is also the second largest rough diamond ever exploited in history.

Earlier, Cullinan diamond weighed 3,106.75 carats (0.62kg) mined in South Africa since 1905. Cullinan was later cut into 105 smaller diamonds. Among them, many were attached to the Queen's crown.
