The world's oldest killer whale died at the age of over 100

The killer whale, nicknamed "Granny" ("old lady"), is believed to have been missing and died at about 105 years old. even when the Titanic was born.

The BBC quoted the researchers as saying: the killer whale named J2 , also known as the "old lady" whale, has been missing since late 2016 and died at the age of 105.

The last person to see J2 is Ken Balcomb - a whale researcher in Washington (USA). This person saw "Granny" swimming near the Haro Strait on October 12, 2016.

"We have seen J2 thousands of times during the last 40 years, since the first time on April 16, 1976. J2 is a rare whale that we cannot know exactly age, because it was born. from before we started research work , " Balcomb said.

Also according to Balcomb, J2 is a leading whale, responsible for leading and caring for small whales in the herd. Even, J2 was also responsible for feeding male whales larger than himself.

The cause of the death of J2 whale has not yet been determined. Two weeks ago, another member of the pack with J2 named J34 (18 years) died and washed ashore after being stabbed by a ship.

The study of J2 whales has helped scientists in an effort to shed light on evolutionary mysteries. Because next to humans and short fin navigator whales, killer whales are one of only three mammals in the world to experience menopause. Killer whales rarely live beyond the age of childbirth, but "Granny" has done something extraordinary and lived for more than 100 years.
