Tomatoes, potatoes '2 in 1'

It is the result of the scientific project 'Creating a grafting plant between tomato and potato' that biotechnology engineer Nguyen Thi Trang Nha (SN 1987, has just graduated from the valedictorian of Ho Chi Minh City Agriculture and Forestry University). currently for the past two years.

From grafting tomatoes on potato stalks, Nha has released a new crop that has just harvested the potatoes to both give the tomatoes with high yield and the content of the substances in the potato as well as tomato fruits are higher than single plants (unmatched trees).

Specifically, when grown in field trials in Da Lat, this 'two-in-one' plant gave high yields, averaging over 19 tons of potatoes / ha and more than 38 tons of tomatoes / ha / service on the same area, while the content of tubers and fruits such as vitamin C in grafted tomatoes reached 8.77 (control of regular tomato was 3.53), while grafted potatoes were 0.27 (potatoes non-grafted west is 0.03); starch in grafted tomatoes is 0.02 (no grafting is 0.02), grafted potatoes are 2.04 (not grafting is 1.66) .

The successful grafting and planting of tomato - potato plants not only saves land, care and fertilizer but also opens new prospects for disease-resistant seedlings for Da Lat farmers.

It is known that Nha's research topic won the second prize of the Euréka Scientific Research Student Award and was awarded a Certificate of Merit by Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union. Nha is continuing to improve the planting and caring process to soon transfer seedlings to farmers.
