Turn off Bluetooth now because it's more dangerous than you think

Researchers at the event for DEF CON hackers warned users to turn off Bluetooth to avoid security threats.

According to Mashable, Bluetooth connectivity technology is widely used around the world. However, it should not be used anymore. Bluetooth allows connection of phones, smart speakers, cars and even ovens. But this is considered a kind of connection that exists many serious security risks.

Mashable said Bluetooth has been repeatedly proven to be a security and privacy nightmare . "Simply turn it off to protect yourself," the technology news website wrote.

At the conference for DEF CON hackers held in Las Vegas, USA, many experts recommend users to disable this connection on devices.

Security experts say hackers can use Bluetooth to control devices like smart speakers and make sounds that are dangerous to listeners.

Besides, hackers can block and change the flow of information transferred from one device to another via Bluetooth.

"An attacker can listen to or change the contents of nearby Bluetooth communications, even between devices that have been successfully paired , " experts say.

According to the New York Times, many stores are using Bluetooth to determine the location of customers. That information is sold to advertisers to build buyer profiles.

Basically, always turning off Bluetooth on the phone helps users reduce the risk of being hacked. However, in an era when all devices are gradually becoming wireless, it is not easy to live without Bluetooth.

In addition to security risks, the AirDrop feature (sending files between Apple devices) based on Bluetooth is also used by sexual harassers.

It became a problem in Japan called AirDrop Chikan (sexual assault on iPhone). So that Japanese subway trains have a separate car for women. IPhone users who are women here also actively turn off AirDrop when taking a train.

The "AirDrop Chikan" appears more and more on Japanese trains. Some appear in crowded areas. Especially Shibuya intersection, where 400,000 pedestrians move through this area for 30 minutes. According to Fast Company, Apple can completely solve this problem by hiding the display of AirDrop images or giving a notification when receiving photos from strangers.
