Turn your laptop into an access point

You have a laptop with wifi and Internet connection. You may also connect to the wifi phone. But for that phone to connect to wifi to the Internet, you need an expensive wifi transmitter.

However, with laptops and mobile phones with the same amount of time to click, you can create access points for many devices.

Prerequisites

Your laptop must have wifi (wireless communication card according to 802.11b standard). Most computers are available on the market and fully integrated.

Besides, your computer must be installed with Windows XP or later versions of XP. You need a cable connection to the Internet. ADSL or Dial-up is fine, as long as your laptop gets into the Internet.

With a little trick, your laptop can turn into a "wifi hotspot".

Perform

The essence of what you're doing is creating an Ad hoc network - building a connection network (primarily wireless) between terminals without having to use base transceiver stations.

The terminals will automatically communicate with each other to form a temporary interconnection network for communication purposes between network nodes.

The first ad hoc was developed for military purposes, but due to the advantages of cost and flexibility, today, everyone can use it. To use this network, follow these steps.

1. If the operating system on your laptop is Windows XP:

- Right-click the My networks place icon on the desktop, and select the Propeties menu.

- Network connection window appears, you right-click the Wifi icon (Wireless networks connection) and then select Propeties menu.

- After the Properties window of the Wireless networks connection appears, select the Wireless network card. Click the Advance button and check the Computer to computer (Ad hoc) box. Then select the Close button to close.

- In the Properties window of the Wireless networks connection, select the Add button, another window will appear. In the Networks name section, enter any network name. You then uncheck the box The key provide for me automatic to set a password for your network (in case you leave this tick, your network will not have a password protected).

Next in Network authentication box is Open and Data encryption is set to WEP . Enter the password in the Networks key section and retype the password at Confirm network key and then press the OK button. Note, your password length must be 5 or 13 characters long.

- You re-enter Network connections window (Right-click the My networks place icon on the desktop, and select Propeties menu) and right-click the Local area connection icon and select the Properties menu.

In the Advance tab, check the box Allow other networks users to connect through the Internet connection this computer and then click the OK button.

- Still in Network connections window, right-click the Wireless networks connection icon and select View Available Wiresless Networks menu. If you see the network name you just created, appear in the list of the Wireless Network Connections window, select that name. Click the Connect button to connect and enter the password you set.

- Finally, take out your phone, scan, connect, enter the password exactly as you were able to access the Internet through the self-created access point.

2. In Windows VISTA or Windows 7:

- Click on the Network icon, select the Network and sharing center tab. Then Manage wireless network, select the Add button. Next select Create an Ad hoc network and click Next .

- In Network Name, give the network a name.

- At Security Type, select WEP .

- At Security Key, set the password of the network. You need to set the password length to 5 or 13 characters. Then select Save This Network and then click Next. Windows will create the network and you need to wait a bit. When finished, the Close button will appear to close.

- You return to Network and sharing center, select the Change adapter tab (or manage network connection). You will see there are two Networks, one is Local Area Connection and the other is Wireless Network Connection. Hold down Ctrl and click to select the two symbols. Then right-click and select Bridge Connection menu.

- Click on the Wireless Network Connection icon and select Connect .

Epilogue

Creating Ad hoc in Windows in addition to turning your laptop into an access point, also helps you connect two (or more) wifi computers together.

This is useful when you don't have a network connection available, or simply don't have any USB to copy data between the two.

However, creating such a network sometimes causes Windows to slow down.
