Use phone camera to test urine and skin

An Israeli company has unveiled applications based on phone cameras to analyze images, thereby finding diseases and suggesting treatment directions.

The method of rod urine testing was developed in 1956 to find glucose to help detect diabetes. Since then, test strips have been used to detect the presence of blood, proteins, hormones during pregnancy, or bacteria that cause urinary tract infections.

With the Dip.io application developed by Healthy.io, patients still use urine test strips and wait for color, then take pictures again. Dip.io will analyze the results based on history. If the results show that the patient needs counseling or prescriptions, the application also automatically schedules.

The team at Healthy.io is working with doctors in Israel to build a system to monitor the protein in the urine of pregnant women at risk of pre-eclampsia, thereby avoiding unwanted risks. .

In the UK, the National Health Service (NHS) began using the application to monitor patients with bladder dysfunction caused by multiple sclerosis. Of those infected, about 60,000 are at high risk of urinary tract infections and about 5,000 people get serious infections each year.

So far, patients who have signs of infection must go to the hospital to check. The use of home-based applications helps them save time, while the NHS also saves about $ 12 million per year.

In the near future, Dip.io will continue to be applied in chronic kidney disease. In the US alone, about 26 million people suffer from this disease and often cause metabolic disorders, diabetes or high blood pressure.

End-stage patients often have expensive dialysis, while if early detection is based on the amount of protein in the urine, blood pressure-lowering drugs and slowing of the disease may be used.

In addition to the ability to analyze urine, Dip.io can also be used to treat dermatological diseases. However, the photos must ensure true color, large enough capacity and accurate shooting angles for the application to analyze.

Healthy.io Yonatan Adiri, founder of Healthy.io, said he also wants to develop many other applications for medical treatment on the phone platform, because almost everyone is using smart phones with functionalities. rapid improvement over time.
