Vietnam propagates and produces successful lily flowers Manissa and Belladonna

The trial production project of Manissa and Belladonna lily varieties with KC.06.DA10 / 11-15 codes presided over by the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute was successful.

Manissa and Belladonna lilies were bred and produced successfully in Vietnam

This is not only good news for the scientific community but also the joy for businesses, organizations and farmers. From 2015 onwards, our country will be able to proactively source and understand techniques for cultivating Manissa and Belladonna lily commercial plants with cheaper prices than imported ones and bring high economic value.

KC.06.DA10 / 11-15 Program Management Board said, this topic is by MSc. Le Thi Thu Huong - Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute is the leader, the coordinating agency is Dia My Company Limited and Moc Chau Hoa Cooperative.

Breeding and successful production of lily flowers Manissa and Belladonna

According to MSc. Le Thi Thu Huong, in recent years, the need to use flowers has increased rapidly in Vietnam, especially high-quality flowers such as lilies . However, the production of these flowers is still directly or indirectly dependent on foreign countries, imported from: Netherlands, Chile, New Zealand, .

From 2008 - 2010, the Fruit Research Institute hosted the pilot production project of Manissa and Belladonna lily varieties with a technical procedure to propagate Manissa and Belladonna flowers by means of a tuber scavenging method in order to create a number of varieties. good quality tubers, producing seed tubers 01 ha / seed (300,000 seed bulbs), especially seed bulbs with 20% cost reduction compared to tubers of the same type.

Accordingly, in the period of 2012 - 2015, the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute continued to implement and complete the process of propagating lilies from tuber scales and the process of producing commercial flowers of benign root scales for Manissa and Belladonna. ; building models and developing high quality lily flowers to serve domestic demand and proceed to export.

With the construction of a commercial model of lily flower growing 1.5 ha / variety (with 3 - 5 flowers / branch), the project also trains and trains more than 70 technicians and farmers with technical knowledge about multiplication. varieties for planting and caring for lilies. Up to now, the project has selected implementing units including: Dia My Co., Ltd. (Moc Chau, Son La) and Hoa Moc Chau Co-operative (Son La) with a scale of over 3 hectares in the district. Moc Chau, Son La.

It is known that the project aims to complete the process of propagation and commercial lily production. Building a model and developing high quality lily flower production to meet domestic demand and proceed to export.

Specifically: Completing the process of lily propagation technology from tuber scales and the process of producing commercial flowers from commercially accepted tuberous scales for Manissa and Belladonna.

Building a production model of 01 ha tubers / varieties (300,000 tubers / variety), the quality of tubers equivalent to imported tuber costs at least 20%.

Building a model of growing commercial lilies of 1.5 ha / variety (3-5 flowers / branch).

Training and training for 70 technical staff, extension workers and farmers with knowledge about breeding techniques, planting and caring for lilies.

In the first phase, the pilot production project:

  1. Seedlings are commercially grown from scales: 600,000 tubers.
  2. Commercial flowers: 540,000 branches.
  3. Model of producing 01ha tubers / variety with capacity of 300,000 tubers / variety: 02 models (2ha).
  4. Model of commercial flower production of 1.5 ha / variety with capacity of 270,000 flower stems / varieties: 02 models (3ha)
