Waterchlo - salt water disinfection equipment

At small water supply stations in many places, water is disinfected with chlorine or liquid. This traditional way does not control the concentration, and can cause harmful residual chlorine to users. The Center for High Technology Development (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) has introduced a new solution - Javen water disinfection in place from salt.

To meet the standards of the Ministry of Health, drinking water must be disinfected at the last stage, before being supplied to households. Large plants perform this step by scouring the chlorine gas. However, this substance is very toxic and unsafe in transporting and preserving. Therefore, it is not suitable for small-scale water supply stations.

Another solution is chlorine powder. However, if mixing the powder into water by manual method, it will harm the health of workers and pollute the water station. On the other hand, this powder absorbs water, releases chlorine gas so the quality of flour decreases quickly when stored. A more feasible solution is Javen water (chemical sodium hypochlorite). This substance effectively disinfects, re-transports easily, but has a high cost and fast deteriorating quality when stored and transported, can become a normal water.

It is also possible to disinfect water with ozone or ultraviolet rays, but since it is only effective for instant disinfection, it is not suitable for post-disinfection water to continue to circulate in pipes and tanks.

The research group of the Center for High-Tech Development, Institute of Materials Science - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, proposed a solution for the first time in our country: electrolysis of salt water to have Javen water in place (or sodium hypochlorite in electrolyte form).

Dr. Nguyen Dinh Cuong, project manager, said that in this form, Javen is a strong, non-toxic, non-degradable oxidizer like chemical javen (semi-available), and how much to use. much production, not as far away as the above methods. Therefore, it is very effective in small and medium scale water disinfection.

On that principle, the research team has successfully designed and manufactured Javen water production equipment suitable for different scales from 10 to 1000 m3 / hour. Equipment will be in the cycle of the water supply station, only using electricity, water and salt as input materials. The output of the device is electrolytic Javen water, which is fed into a water pipe in a certain proportion. In this way, to disinfect 1m3 domestic water only costs 25 VND, much cheaper than other methods. In addition, the operator can easily adjust to bring Javen water concentration into the pipe as desired.

Mr. Cuong also said that the device is similar to US equipment, but has a cost of only 1/3. Thanks to many of these advantages, up to now, although it has only been established since the end of 2005, the equipment has been well received by many localities, such as 6 units for the clean water project in Nghe An. Mr. Cuong also said that the product is the most complete result after 10 years of research of the Center.
