Why say Typhoon Tembin is a catastrophic storm?

Every year we experience a lot of tropical storms, but not every storm is considered a disaster. And Typhoon Tembin - this number 16 storm is believed to be a catastrophic storm.

How is a storm called a disaster?

Every year, the tropical region always suffers a lot of storms from the sea, but this time Tembin is the latest storm, and is also the strongest at the time of December in our country's history. However, it is not natural to be considered a disaster.

In Document No. 44/2014 / QD-TTg on "Detailed provisions on disaster risk level", it is stated that natural disaster risks on tropical depressions have 3 levels: lowest is 3 and high especially 5 . Provisions are as follows:

1. Level 3 risk

  1. Tropical depression, typhoon level 8, level 9 operating in the South China Sea.
  2. Strong storms of level 10 and level 11 operate in the South China Sea (including the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos), coastal areas and land areas in the North and Central regions;
  3. Strong storms from level 12 to level 15 operate in the South China Sea (including the Paracel and Spratly Islands).

2. Level 4 risks

  1. Strong storms of level 10 and level 11 operate on land in the Southern region;
  2. Very strong storms from level 12 to level 15 operating in coastal areas, in the North and Central regions;
  3. Super storms from level 16 or higher operate in the South China Sea (including the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos).

3. Level 5 risks

  1. Very strong storms from level 12 to level 15 operate on land in the Southern region;
  2. Super storms from level 16 or higher operate on coastal areas and in the North and Central regions.

According to information from the Hydrometeorological Center provided, Typhoon Tembin moved to Vietnam waters to reach level 12, with wind recorded as level 10, jerked up levels 12-13, even 14. With As such, Tembin is still classified as a level 4 risk, meaning it is already at the level of disaster for the community.

For those who do not know, the storms from level 12 or higher all have serious consequences.
