With just one injection, male birth control pills are up to 98% effective.

The drug is expected to change the lives of 225 million women in developing countries.

The market for contraception is developing very fast. In fact, a survey in 2015 of nine countries measured total contraceptive revenue at about $ 19 billion with an expected growth rate of 6% over the next few years.

By analyzing contraceptive methods according to comfort criteria, cost and gender, it is not difficult to recognize contraceptive products that are predominantly for women and more modest types of contraceptive methods for men.

According to the study, 52% of sales of contraceptive devices (except pills) come from condom use, the rest comes from contraceptive methods applied to women.

In particular, in many developed countries, women are the main users of contraceptive methods. The data show that 60% of women use oral contraceptives and only 8% of men use condoms when having sex even though women experience side effects such as nausea, weight gain and mood changes.

But this model may change thanks to male birth control pills that are fast, safe, cheap and effective. The drug was made by Sujoy Guha, a 76-year-old biomedical engineer from India. After 30 years of research, Guha developed a male contraceptive method that is as effective as a condom with just one injection.

The contraceptive injection contains a positively charged polymer gel, which is injected into the vessels in the scrotum containing negatively charged spermatozoa. This anode acts as a buffer that interferes with sperm components, causing the cells to reproduce infertility. This method can also be reversed.

A second injection will target the injected polymer which will break the gel and allow sperm to continue to perform its original mission. The cycle, called Reversible Inhibition of Sperm Under Guidance (RISUG), runs out to about $ 10.

The Parsemus Foundation, a nonprofit organization in the United States, granted Guha a license to use this cycle in markets outside India under the name Vasalgel.

When testing drugs on monkeys for two years, Vasalgel proved to be an effective contraceptive, and now it is at the end of human clinical trials. After analyzing data from 282 volunteers, it was found that the contraceptive effect was 98%. Therefore, the drug will enter the Indian market within the next two years.

This improvement can change the lives of 225 million women in developing countries, who have difficulty using other contraceptive methods.
