21 million pounds for space radar project

The British government is launching a radar satellite project flying around the Earth with initial support for design companies up to £ 21 million.

This is the amount of a 200 million pound investment project for government science.

The radar spacecraft can clearly see the surface of the Earth in all weather and light conditions, allowing it to capture anywhere on the planet 24 hours.

The Rada will become the most useful tool to observe the Earth because of its ability to identify objects and events on the ground as soon as it is covered by thick clouds.

Supported by the government, Surrey Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. (SSTL), a company that designs small spacecraft, and the parent company Astrium, designs the largest satellites in orbit, delivered. developed radar satellite named NovaSar-S . This type of satellite is relatively compact, weighs less than 400kg.

NovaSar-S will soon be launched into orbit. If successful, more spacecraft of this type will continue to depart and create a radar satellite set. NovaSar-S produces a medium resolution image which means that the image on the ground will be larger than 6m to be clearly visible.

Radar satellites will be particularly useful in monitoring deforestation, land management, disaster mapping, maritime law enforcement, flood monitoring .
