Appearance of the Earth when there is no ocean covered
The Earth's surface will change completely if the oceans no longer exist with the emergence of viaducts and peaks.
The isolated islands were formerly connected to the mainland and high peaks in what used to be contemporary.
Dr. James O'Donoghue, a planetary scientist at the Japan Space Agency (JAXA), shared a 4K graphic depicting the face of the Earth when it was no longer covered by sea. The ocean covers 71% of the Earth's surface. James' starting point is a 2008 NASA graphic that illustrates all surface water being sucked into an imaginary sewer.
Combining recent data, the planetary scientist creates graphics that are 35 times higher in resolution, adding data on the change in water volume . The end result is a video showing previously isolated islands connected to the mainland and rising peaks in what used to be contemporary.
"I was most surprised by the presence of countless viaducts. In the last Ice Age, England connected with Europe, Russia connected with Alaska, Asia connected with Australia. These bridges allowed people migrated without boats. This map helps explain the migration process of prehistoric mankind , " explained James.
