Cockatoo birds at risk of extinction
Cockatoo birds are a rare bird species in the world and they are at risk of extinction. This bird is being cared very carefully at a nature reserve in New Caledonie.
Jean Marc Meriot - a bird researcher who has been tasked with tracking this bird for many years - has had valuable collection of cockatoo birds.
Mr. Jean Marc Meriot said: "This job asks a lot of patience. I have spent about 3 years to find the area of cockatoo birds live. After that is hours and hours of traveling to count and follow. they hope they will lead to the drive ".
Contrary to most other birds, cockatoo birds build nests right on the ground, near rocks, on steep banks or in hollow tree niches. Therefore, young birds become prey to all predators in the area.
"The predators are everywhere, especially rats," he said. "There are two types of mice: one that only consumes plants and black rats that attack newly hatched birds."
Cockatoo birds in New Caledonie are named in the Washington Convention for the protection of endangered species.
