Discovering mysterious caves after 5.5 million years, found dozens of new species of creatures
Can an ecosystem without terrestrial sunlight maintain the life cycle of organisms? The cave is sealed for millions of years with the answer for you.
Just a few kilometers away from the Black Sea Lake, the Movile Cave in Romania is opened after a completely sealed 5.5 million year period. And even though the humidity is extremely high along with the toxic air inside, the cave has maintained an ecosystem in completely isolated conditions. For biologists this is really like a gold mine.
This cave was discovered only in the process of searching for a place to build an atomic furnace in 1986. Now the government is blocking the entrance and only those with privilege can enter the cave.
And even then, it's not an easy thing to set foot in the cave. Narrow stone tunnels and pillar networks were enough to make tired research teams. And yet, the air inside the cave contains only half of the oxygen outside, the rest is CO2 and H 2 S.
Although the cave has been "excavated" , the natural light inside is still extremely limited. Going deep inside is a pitch-black color.
This finding may not stop the fans of long-legged beards from being happy.
This did not prevent life from continuing to grow inside. In these harsh environmental conditions, the researchers identified 48 different species of species, including spiders, water scorpions, fake scorpions, centipedes, leeches and some even-footed crustaceans.
Up to 33 species in it are completely new and cannot be found anywhere else. Nearly all of the cave creatures do not have the ability to sense light, their body color is also limited to the most basic level.
The cause of this evolution is also quite understandable. Living your whole life in the dark darkness, you don't need to pay any attention to sharp looks or sharp eyes.
What is more surprising here is that due to the lack of light, the creatures in the cave have developed their legs, the longer and longer the beard is, the better the orientation in the dark.
Not only that, the ecosystem in the cave does not have the same rules as normal ecosystems. Specifically, instead of converting light into energy, this particular ecosystem relies entirely on chemical reactions to maintain its energy. These reactions often come from oxidation of sulfur compounds or ammonium .
Evidence for an ecosystem capable of developing steadily even without the help of the sun.
There is a question that remains a mystery to scientists: How did these creatures get stuck in caves in the vampire country 5.5 million years ago?
According to J. colin Murrell, microbiologist at the University of East Anglia explained: "There is a high possibility that the bacteria in the cave existed even longer than 5.5 million years ago, but the bugs may have trap "at that time. Surely they happened to fall into the cave before the falling rock completely covered every exit from the cave. "
The cave is still hidden in many mysteries. Even after knowing about the existence of the cave for 30 years, scientists have not yet discovered a large amount of strange creatures inside the cave until now. They hope to discover new important clues about the evolutionary history of the natural world itself.
