Found rare rats after 113 years

UPI news agency (USA) reported that scientists announced the discovery of rare rats after 113 years in El Dorado nature reserve, Columbia. It is a tree mouse with red fur around its neck, scientific name Santamartamys rufodorsalis.

According to UPI , Santamartamys rufodorsalis is a mysterious rodent of South America, never seen it appear since 1898 even though researchers have conducted many surveys, searching for this species.

It was not until 9:30 pm 4-5-2011, after 113 years, that two volunteer researchers Lizzie Noble and Simon McKeown of ProAves - Columbia Wildlife Conservation Organization - took pictures of This rare mouse species in the El Dorado nature reserve while they surveyed the amphibians here.

Santamartamys rufodorsalis mice are currently classified as 'extremely endangered' (CR) in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, the main threat to this species is wild cats.
