Indian rhinos are killed at breakneck speed
At least 13 Indian rhinos have been killed by poachers for horns in the first two months of the year, while only 21 suffered the same fate last year.
Indian rhinoceros was killed continuously during the past time
makes local authorities and forest rangers concerned.
The main rhino is killed in Kaziranga National Park, Assam state, which accounts for more than two-thirds of the world's one-horn rhinos. The rangers here even fought with criminals to stop killing animals, but failed.
"Poachers shot rhinos to get horns. In two months, they killed up to 13 children," NK Vasu, supervisor of Kaziranga Park told AFP.
Wild animal experts say that precious rhino horns like gold are the cause of the worldwide crime group eager to hunt them down.
China is the main consumer market, rhino horn used by this country mainly in medicine and jewelry making. The Vietnamese also believe that rhino horn is effective in treating cancer and processing aphrodisiacs. However, the scientific community always denies the "extraordinary" effect of rhino horn.
Last year, in India, at least 21 rhinos were killed. According to 2012 data, there are 2,290 single-horn rhinos living in Kaziranga Park, while the number of rhinos worldwide is 3,300.
Local officials said they have stepped up security patrols and are planning to seek help from locals around the park to protect rare rhino species.
