American astronomers believe that the "child" Vesta planet has the second highest mountain in the solar system, higher than anything on Earth, according to UPI news agency.

The mountain on Vesta is over 19,000m, measured from the bottom of a large southernmost crater of the planet, higher than Mauna Kea in Hawaii (USA), the highest mountain on the Green Planet when measured from the sea floor.

With the above height, the mountain on Vesta is second only to the Olympus Mons volcano on Mars.

The unnamed mountain but the crater where it is located is named Rheasilvia , named after the twins' legendary mother who built Rome.

New findings were collected by the US Air and Space Administration's Dawn space ship, which flew around Vesta's trajectory since July this year.

The main investigator of the spacecraft mission Dawn Chris Russel said, Vesta is the smallest planet in the solar system.

'Like Earth, Mars, Venus and Mercury, Vesta has an ancient basalt shell, lava flows across the surface, and it also has a large iron core , ' Mr. Russel said.

According to him, Vesta has tectonic features, like Earth, such as stretching valleys, stretches of land, cliffs, hills and a huge mountain.
