Mekong Delta: tired of waiting for bird flu vaccine
On October 20, according to Mr. Nguyen Phuc Tai - Head of the Veterinary Department in Bac Lieu province - the farmers in the province are tired of waiting for the vaccination against bird flu. In Dong Thap, the provincial Veterinary Department said that only 10% of the total of about 2 million poultry were vaccinated.
Like the provinces of Bac Lieu and Dong Thap, . in recent days, the veterinary sector of Soc Trang province has only vaccinated chickens because of the lack of 200,000 doses of vaccines for ducks . In Vinh Long, Ngo My Dung, head of the Veterinary Department in Vinh Long province, said the total herd of poultry in Vinh Long province is currently estimated at 5 million.
On October 10, 2005, the first nasal chicken vaccine was vaccinated for more than 420,000 doses, injecting ducks for more than 970,000 doses. Due to lack of vaccines, the remaining poultry have to wait for new vaccines to continue.
According to Mr. Dau Ngoc Hao, deputy director of the Department of Animal Health, if there is no problem, on October 20, there will be 260 million doses of vaccines against bird flu from China to Vietnam. If this is the case, the missing provinces may receive the vaccine by October 23, and the end of the first round of vaccination will most likely last until mid-November.
