Micro diamonds can fight cancer
US scientists at Northwestern University on March 9 said they have discovered ways to treat end-stage liver and breast cancer tumors by attaching a strong chemotherapy drug to carbon molecules. extremely small, called super diamonds.
In the study results published in the journal Science Translational Medicine , scientists say that the technique has been tested in mice and showed that super diamonds have supported the drug doxorubicin to penetrate tumors. which is resistant to common chemicals and makes these tumors smaller.
Without these super diamonds, the drug doxorubicin will be resistant to the patient's body and will not work against tumors. If treated with high doses, it will be dangerous for patients.
Dr. Dean Ho, director of the study, said: " This is the first study to show the great potential and importance of micro diamonds in the treatment of resistant cancers. chemical treatment ".
Dr Ho said it may take several years before the therapy is available and researchers will first consider the effect of the therapy in larger animals, before Clinical trials in humans.
Super diamonds are often formed after explosions in oil or coal mining operations, or even created by meteorite falls.
