NASA buys Russian spacecraft

The US Aerospace Agency (NASA) has accepted conditions for prices and delivery for four Russian-made spacecraft, including two Soyuz and two Progress vessels.

"NASA wants to take its shuttles off as soon as possible to save money for the construction of new ships," said the director of the manned spacecraft program Alexie Krasnov. "We are ready to support that work with existing Russian ships."

Earlier this year, it was reported that NASA intended to buy the Soyuz service, to transport American astronauts to and from the ISS, in case something happened to the shuttle fleet of the country.
