New discoveries about super-Earth revolve around host stars

A group of international astronomers discovered 5 times a mass of a star lower than our sun. The findings are detailed in the article published online on arXiv.

In this study, we discovered a super Earth-like planet orbiting a low-mass dwarf host. This planetary system is called OGLE-2017-BLG-0482 , in which planet OGLE-2017-BLG-0482Lb has 9 times the mass of the Earth and orbits the star's orbit at 1.8 AU .

The mother star is an M dwarf with a mass of about 0.2 solar masses. The new planetary system was found about 19,000 light-years from Earth.

We find that the mass of the super-Earth planet and the host Mp = 9.0 + 9.0-4.5 M⊕ and Mhost = 0.20 + 0.20-0.10 M⊙ and the distance between them is a⊥ = 1.8 + 0.6-0.7 au.

The estimated distance to the lens is DL = 5.8 + 1.8-2.1 kpc. The discovery of the planetary system shows that the micro-quantum method provides an important way to detect low-mass planets orbiting host stars also in low mass.
