Pentagon builds satellite

Pentagon scientists have come up with an idea that is "crazy", in which they want to exploit dead telecommunications satellites to get their parts to reuse in orbit. This program is called Pheonix and is expected to be tested in orbit in 2015.

The project started last year and entered a new phase this week after the Pentagon's Advanced Research Project Office (DARPA) began offering bids to commercial satellite owners. To allow the old spacecraft to be cut off by space robots as evidence for the research.

DARPA also organizes a conference attended by many scholars, private companies and military experts to discuss the challenges of new technology as well as the regulations of the valuable research program. 36 million USD.

According to the plan, DARPA will orbit a geostationary satellite (GEO) equipped with a robotic arm and other necessary tools to collect reusable details in space and replace for other devices that need it to save the cost of bringing replacement parts from Earth to orbit.

Next, a series of smaller spacecraft called satlets are used as a means of transport for GEO to classify and select reusable items that GEO collected and worked on. Replace them when necessary according to the control from the ground.

This is considered an expensive project that requires a lot of help from media and government companies, however, DAPRA is promoting this research program.
