Scientists discovered the least sleeping animal
According to a study published in the journal PLOS One, the least sleeping animal on Earth is an elephant.
Farmed elephants sleep 4-6 hours a day, but wild elephants only sleep for 2 hours a day.
On average, these giant animals sleep only two hours a day, while their brains are not affected by sleep deprivation.
"In captivity, elephants sleep about 4-6 hours, but we have followed their sleep in the wild. Wild elephants only sleep for 2 hours a day, which is a record number for This is probably due to the large size of the body, in addition, it seems that elephants have dreams only once in 3-4 days " - said Paul Munger from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg (South Africa) said.
According to him, such a short sleep makes elephants become very interesting animals to study. Biologists will be able to learn how to deal with the negative effects of sleep deprivation. Perhaps these findings will help scientists find the source of insomnia and how to deal with it.
