The 'smart' shirt measures temperature, heart rate
Spanish scientists have launched a T-shirt that can monitor heart rate and human temperature. This shirt will be on sale in the next six months.
The shirt is made of a smart fiber with integrated electrodes into the fabric. The raw data is collected by a device around the collar, and then sent to the processing system over the wireless network to analyze the results.
Based on the results of temperature and acceleration measurements, physicians may know the patient's activities such as lying, sitting, standing ...
Dr. Jose Ignacio Moreno from Carlos III University (Madrid, Spain) said that this shirt will not affect the life of the patient. It also has an alarm system, and doctors will set the mode that suits each patient. The machine will sound a warning if the temperature or heart rate of the patient increases to dangerous levels.
The shirt is both antibacterial and washable like other normal shirts.
The researchers tested up to five patients at the Cardiology department of La Paz Hospital in Madrid. They said the results were promising compared to the traditional way of tracking.
They say that in the future, this shirt will help doctors monitor patients at home, patients will reduce the length of hospitalization.
They are finishing up the final stage to put this 'smart' shirt on the market.
