The female model faces hidden in the painting of the French artist

Beneath the oil painting of the original painting, Australian researchers discovered the tilted face of the female model that the author loved.

"Portrait of a woman" is a picture painted in 1865 by famous French artist Edgar Degas, one of the founders of the Impressionist school. Since the 1920s, many experts suspect there is a hidden picture in the painting, beneath the oil paint. However, the technology at the time did not allow researchers to study the details of the painting, according to the International Business Times.

A group of Australian scientists used high-definition X-ray mapping techniques without affecting the picture to look beneath the outer paint. The map is then processed to create a false image of the hidden portrait in the painting. The results were published yesterday in Scientific.

The resulting image shows a woman's profile . Female ears have an imbalance and blurred proportions. According to the researchers, Degas painted several times so that the features and proportions on the face became harmonious.

The woman in the portrait painting is said to be Emma Dobigny , one of Degas's favorite models. "Dobigny, whose real name is Marie Emma Thuilleux, modeled Degas from 1869 to 1870. She was Degas's favorite model and other French painters of the same time," the study authors said.

"We noticed a striking resemblance between the hidden portrait and some of Degas's Emma Dobigny paintings. Documents show Degas's affection for Emma Dobigny's special affection. unfinished paintings that Degas hides ".

According to scientists, the research results will help them review some of the world's great art masterpieces and allow discovering more hidden paintings.
