The mystery of ancient pyramids in China: Does the 'tomb' have a special shape or is it hidden?

To this day, the mysterious pyramids in China still pose a challenge to posterity's understanding of ancient history and culture. Let's explore the secrets behind these mysterious architectural works.

Discover mysterious pyramids

According to The Archaeologist , more than 100km outside the ancient city of Xi'an, in Shaanxi province - China, amid overgrown forests, there are dozens of pyramid-shaped hills that have been shrouded in mystery for thousands of years. These pyramids were first discovered by Fred Meyer Schroder, an American businessman, in 1912. He recorded a detailed description in his diary, stating that he saw a pyramid. The giant pyramid is about 1,000 feet (more than 300 meters) high and is surrounded by several smaller pyramids.

According to Schroeder, when he inspected the pyramids, he found that they all had no entrance. These pyramids are built from many similar stone blocks, each block is square with an edge of about 90cm.

The second person who confirmed seeing these pyramids was James Gaussman , an American pilot. It was in 1945 that Gaussman was assigned to fly a C-47 transport plane delivering supplies from an American military base in India.

One day, while flying back to base, his plane suddenly had problems with the engine, forcing Gaussman to lower altitude. And while flying along the mountainside, Gaussman suddenly saw a flat valley spreading out before his eyes. Then the pyramids, which seemed even larger than the Egyptian pyramids, appeared one after another. Gaussman felt overwhelmed by this scene, he even flew around to see these pyramids more clearly.

Two years later, Colonel Maurice Sheahan , Far East Director of Trans World Airlines, also had the opportunity to fly over the pyramid area, following Gaussman's instructions. This time, because she had prepared in advance, Sheahan also took some photos that were later published in The New York Times on March 28, 1947.

However, Chinese archaeologists deny the existence of the pyramids in Xi'an, even though evidence is provided by the photos Sheahan published. Some admit the existence of these structures but assert that they are not "pyramids" but just "trapezoidal tombs".

Answers from experts and scientists

It wasn't until 50 years later that a German explorer named Hartwig Hausdorf and his colleagues determined to find the truth. They went to Xianyang, an ancient citadel about 40 miles from Xi'an, where the research team saw at least 16 pyramids in this area. Experts believe that this discovery will overshadow Howard Carter's discovery of Tutankhamun in 1922. The research team was surprised to find many bushes planted on the sides of the pyramid. They believe that local authorities are trying to hide these pyramids by making them blend in with the surrounding natural environment.

The construction of these pyramids has many similarities with the pyramids of Teotiahucan (Mexico) with a stacked structure and clay steps on the sides. The top of the tower is made flat, like the common rectangular structures of the Maya.

Experts say that these pyramids are not only unique architectural works, but also contain many secrets about ancient Chinese history and culture. These architectural works are said to be from 4,500 years up to 8,000 years old. They believed they could be arranged to reflect the shape of a certain constellation in the sky.

According to Discovery and The Travel , there are many theories about the purpose of building these pyramids. Some have suggested they may have been used as a secret military facility designed for nuclear war. Others believe they could be the tombs of emperors.

The mysterious pyramids in China are not only unique architectural works but also important evidence for the development of ancient people. Although there are still many mysteries yet to be deciphered, they have been opening up new research directions, promoting our understanding of humanity's rich past.
