"Imagine you are in a strange room, bright and full of obstacles. Then suddenly all electric lights are turned off by someone and you are asked to leave immediately. Surely you will meet with many difficulties because your eyes cannot adapt to the darkness so quickly, " Cooke said.

With dim light in the cabin, passengers can see objects in the dark more easily and quickly find their way to the emergency exit along the glowing corridor. That is why the airplane window needs to be opened in case of take-off and landing to get natural light to help passengers move safely.
