Things you need to know about thunder

Thunder or Thunder is the sound caused by lightning and is a natural phenomenon. Depending on the distance and the nature of the lightning, the sound of thunder can be heard as a short bar or a loud, long or short bass. The sound of thunder often follows the light of lightning.

What is lightning?

Lightning (also known as electric discharge) is the most common strong electromagnetic source occurring in nature. It is a form of spark discharge in the air with great distance. Discharge can occur in thunderclouds, between clouds together and between clouds and land.

Lightning is often very dangerous. Every year it kills thousands of people in the world. Lightning is also one of the causes of forest fires in countries. However, thunder benefits as a result of creating ozone for the atmosphere, helping to improve soil resources, increasing plant growth (it helps to create nitrogen for plant growth). Scientists today also study thunder to determine rainfall. Besides, lightning is also a huge energy source. It is estimated that the amount of electricity that can be charged once a lightning strike can pull a 14-car train running 200km. Or a normal light beam can light a 100W light bulb for 3 months.

However, so far this collection of energy seems to be 'hopeless' . Scientists are still trying to gather this energy source. So? How much energy does it generate? Please see the infographic below to know more about this.
