Unique hotel 'fort' between the ocean

With an investment of nearly $ 5 million, a fortress built in the late 19th century in England was converted into a luxury hotel in the Solent Sea.

In the late 1800s, British Prime Minister Viscount Palmersto built a number of fortresses in the Solent Sea to protect Portsmouth Harbor from the invasion of the French army soon after hearing that Napoleon III became Emperor of France.

Although the invasion did not happen, the fortresses were all equipped with guns and maintained for a century.

The Horse Sands fortress and No Man's Land fortress were built to protect the coast of England from the invasion of ships and Spitbank used to fight ships that passed the control of the other two forts.

Keeping this important role, the Spitbank is equipped with nine 12.5-inch short-barreled guns. Later in 1884, these guns were replaced with more modern guns and continued to operate until after World War I. In the early 1900s, all three large guns at the fortress were dismantled, some small guns and lighting equipment were repaired and maintained in later years.

In 1982, the British Ministry of Defense shut down the Spitbank Fortress and then the project was handed over to private managers. During this early period, the fortress was the place to host events such as the Festival Coalition 2009, parties and reality TV shows. The Spitbank Fortress was also a museum in a short time.

The hotel's current owner bought the fort in 2010 and turned it into a luxury hotel after a major overhaul of nearly $ 5 million. The hotel was opened in the second half of 2012.

The Spitbank Fort Hotel currently has nine luxurious guest rooms, three bars, three restaurants, a wine bar on the roof of the cellar along with a library, a heated rooftop pool, a sauna and sun loungers. Many of the original details of the fortress were retained as brick walls, fortress windows and an old cannon.

Currently the Fort Horse Sands Fort has become a museum and the No Man's Land Fort Fortress will be invested to become an even more advanced hotel than Spitbank.
