What do aliens see on TV?
Is there an intellectual life on another planet? If so, what do extraterrestrials see on TV? Astronomers are planning to search 1,000 nearby stars to catch waves and find signals that prove a different civilized life.
The Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics said the project, which began in 2008, will use a new radio telescope to search for similar broadcast signals on Earth.
Current efforts to find extraterrestrial life focus only on messages deliberately sent in space, but this way may bypass civilizations that do not intend to advertise their presence. as the earth does.
(Photo: geocities.com) The new method will search for a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum still used on earth for vehicles such as radar, television, and FM radio.
" We can get signals from people who don't intend us to hear and understand something that's going on, " said David Aguilar, communications director at the Center.
The electromagnetic spectrum extends from high-energy radiation such as gamma rays and X-rays to low-energy waves such as radio waves and ultra-short waves. The new low-frequency telescope is being built in Australia and will operate far enough to avoid interference by other waves.
The project will be able to detect similar radio signals on Earth within 30 light-years of distance and cover more than 1,000 stars. The project will be presented officially at the meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Seattle on January 10.
