Discovering a black hole 40 billion times larger than the Sun.

Holm black hole 15A * is hundreds of millions of light years from the Earth so large that the Solar System can fit in its event horizon.

The black hole is located in the Holmberg Center 15A , a giant elliptical galaxy 700 million light-years away, located in the middle of the galaxy cluster Abell 85. This is one of the largest black holes that researchers have ever discovered. The results of this black hole study are published in arXiv magazine today.

Previous calculations based on galactic movements and galaxy clusters estimated the mass of the Holm black hole 15A * to be 310 billion times the mass of the Sun. However, it is the calculation result by the indirect method. Through tracking the movements of stars around the black hole, the team found a more accurate number.

Holm 15A * is not the most massive black hole. Record of black hole in TON 618, weighing 66 billion times the Sun. But the event horizon, also known as the Holm black hole Schwarzschild radius, is 1590 * 790 AU (the astronomical unit is conventionalized by the distance from the Earth to the Sun), enough to cover the orbit of every planet in solar system. Compared to the above figure, the distance from Pluto to the Sun is only 39.5 AU.
