Precious minerals are more precious than diamonds

Some minerals in the heart of the Earth have reserves of less than one sugar and are easy to dissolve.

In a study published in January in the American Journal of Mineralogy, two scientists Robert Hazen at the Carnegie Institute in Washington and Jesse Ausubel at Rockefeller University classify more than 2,500 of the most rare minerals on Earth. Each type comes from several parts of the world, and some have less than one sugar, according to The Huffington Post.

"If you want to give your fiancée a really rare ring, don't choose a diamond. Give her a stone Sardinian ichnusaite , " Hazen said.

Ichnusaite, a pearl- colored, colorless and crunchy mineral , was discovered on the island of Sardinia in Italy in 2013. Hazen said that with only one specimen, this mineral is really rare.

Another mineral of red rose named cobaltomenite is found in four places including Utah of the United States, Argentina, Bolivia and Congo. According to the Los Angeles Times, cobaltomenite is so rare that reserves in the earth just fit into a small glass.

"2,550 of these minerals are much rarer than expensive diamonds and gems often used as a symbol of love. Some tend to melt, evaporate or absorb water. Some types gradually decompose. when exposed to the sun, " the study authors said.

Of the more than 5,000 minerals recorded on Earth, less than 100 types account for 99% of the planet's crust. The rarest types are what make the Earth so special and "play a key role in the diversity of the environment near the planet's surface , " Hazen said.

Hazen and Ausubel classify the minerals based on their unique characteristics, the level of rarity of the ingredients, the short duration of existence as well as the remote and remote locations they are found.

According to Hazen, a perfect example of a rare fingerite , only exists near the peak of Izalco volcano in El Salvador. "This mineral consists of rare elements. Vanadium and copper must coexist and combine under extremely limited conditions. If you change small amounts of copper and vanadium, you will have a completely different mineral. And every time it rains, fingerite will be washed away, " Hazen stressed.
