2/3 polar bears will disappear
By 2050, two thirds of polar bears in the world will die because ice is getting less and less when the world warms up .
Research projects by the US Geological Survey (USGS) said that in the next half century, polar bears will disappear along the northern coasts of Alaska, Russia and in the summer, the animals will about 42% of the area in the Polar Basin, where they hunt and breed.
'There is an intimate relationship between Arctic sea ice change and polar bear survival. When the ice is gone, polar bears disappear, 'said Steven Amstrup, USGS scientist. "The results of future research on ice change state that the world's polar bear population will be only 1/3 in the middle of the 21st century."
Polar bears live in the territory of five different countries. They are present off the coast of northern and northwestern Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Svalbard (Norway) and the Russian Federation. Polar bear lifecycle usually lasts about 30 years. According to Amstrup, scientific research to prevent ice melt could help preserve this animal.
