In 1909, the banker in France, Albert Kahn, began creating a 'photo gallery of human life on earth'. His team collected a total of 72,000 color photos in more than 50 countries, making it the largest collection ever in the 'newborn' phase of color photos.

In addition to the 72,000 stills collected, Kahn's team accumulated more than 100 hours of movies during the 22 years of the 'massive' project.
