African elephants can distinguish human voices

New research shows that elephants can guess the age of humans, while relying on voice to distinguish good or bad intentions of the opposite.

An elephant, specifically an African elephant, will never forget the voice once heard.

Based on the remarkable memory, this thick skin from which can distinguish between the voice emitted from the opponents in a more moderate voice to soon have appropriate reactions.

They also identify the voices of women or men, adults or young children, according to a report published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The study was conducted at Amboseli National Park in Kenya, whereby African elephants rely on human voices to take self-defense action if they think someone wants to harm them.

Before peaceful voices or inability to intimidate, elephants continue to live normally, not trying to avoid or attack people.

African elephants , the scientific name Loxodonta africana , is the largest animal on land, and is facing the risk of disappearance due to shrinking living areas and poaching for ivory.
