Another species of shark is found in nature
The newly discovered shark likes to live off the coast of South Carolina. ( Photo: BBC ) A new type of hammer shark has just been discovered in the waters of the United States, northwest of the Atlantic Ocean. Its appearance is like a familiar species called scalloped hammerhead, but the genome is quite different.
This creature has never been categorized or named.
American scientists say animals seem to be rare, only breeding in waters off the coast of South Carolina. They believe that this species is in danger of extinction and that conservation efforts are needed to help females take care of the young.
Scientists plan to tag the shark to better understand its distribution range.
Ali Hood, conservation director of Shark Trust in the UK, said that with about 454 species of sharks recorded in the wild, discovering a new species is very interesting.
