Aquaduct - Bicycles to filter the water
The Aquaduct group in California has built a water-powered bicycle and water filters to support families in developing countries.
Aquaduct is claimed to be the winner of the " Innovate or Die " pedal-driven competition - first in the US in early January.
The contest is sponsored by Google and bicycle maker Goodby Silverstein & Partners, to encourage the improvement of pedal-based solutions to environmental problems.
The Aquaduct has two compartments carrying water and will clean the water during its travel, so people do not need to sterilize by boiling anymore. When the user pedal pedal, the water from the reservoir (at the tail, before the water is cleaned) is pumped through the filter, then the clean water is led to the clean chamber (at the nose ).
Many women in developing countries have to walk far to bring water home. This new medium will help them significantly reduce the difficulty.
When cycling, the peristaltic pump will pump water from the back chamber (through the reservoir) through the filter, and bring the clean water to the front compartment (clean chamber). - (Photo: TFOT)
