'Astronaut Buzz Lightyear is in the longest space
Buzz Lightyear, the toy star in Disney's Toy Story, returned to Earth after 15 months of exploding stars, setting the record for the longest space astronaut ever.
Lightyear was on the Space Shuttle Discovery and the International Space Station (ISS) 30 days more than any astronaut in space. Launched on a space shuttle Discovery in May 2008, Lightyear returned to Earth on September 11. During his stay in ISS, Lightyear supported the US Aeronautics Agency (NASA) education program - STEM (Science, Engineering, Engineering and Mathematics) - by creating a series of displays. Following a heroic return, Lightyear - 30.48 cm tall - will be taken on the October 2 parade at Walt Disney World in Florida. Attending the parade will be the crew on the ISS and the guest of the owner will be the same name and the second person to the moon, Buzz Aldrin, in the Apollo 11 mission. Lightyear was in a 467-day space compared to 437 days that Russian astronaut Valeri Polyakov spent on Mir space station in 1993-1994.
