Avoid hunters, a herd of elephants hid on the desert island

International experts have located hundreds of wild elephants on an uninhabited island in a swamp in southern Sudan. This seems to be a refuge that helps them avoid hunters for more than 20 years of civil war in this country.

" We flew over a cloud and saw them there. It was like a Jurassic Park, " said Tom Catterson, working in a US-sponsored environmental program in southern Sudan.

The southern civil war in Sudan has created huge migrations of animals and humans to neighboring countries. It ended in 2005 with a peace treaty, allowing the south to play a semi-autonomous role, but according to experts, hunting still could not control in a gun-filled place despite the ban. Wildlife hunting has been in effect for the past 5 years.
