Church in Vezelay in Bourgogne province in France. The church is called Magdalena , also known as the Basilica of St. Mary Magdalena . Historically, the precursor of the church was a monastery. The monastery called Benedictine , the church is now remodeled on the foundation of this monastery. In 861, Benedictine monks went to Vezelay Hill and decided to choose this place to build a monastery. The first monastery was built in 878 with the purpose of preserving the relics of St. Mary Magdalena. These relics were brought from Saint Maximin to Sainte Baurne in Provence in France. Later the monastery was renamed the church of Magdalena because it was here to worship St. Mary Magdalena and her relics.

In 1096, a new church was built on the old monastery. The new church was completed in 1104, but by 1120, the church suffered a great fire. After that fire, many of the church's structures were destroyed, including the main hall. The main hall was rebuilt and completed in 1138.

More and more, the church has more and more artifacts and relics of St. Mary Magdalena so it became an important place on the pilgrimage route of Saint Jacques de Compostelle . The church porch dates from the 12th century (around 1145-1150), while the main building of the church has Roman architecture completed in 1140, the horizontal corridor has a Gothic style completed in 1190.
