According to ABC on November 13, Australian Prime Minister John Howard considers climate change a key discussion at the APEC Economic Leadership Conference in Vietnam.
Mr Howard said he would pursue climate change and energy security issues during a meeting with APEC leaders. He said: "APEC is the ideal forum to discuss such issues." In addition, he plans to meet and discuss bilaterally with heads of states, China and Japan - the world's leading energy consumers.
However, public opinion in Australia such as the Communist Party and the Green Party considers this position to be insufficient and requires Howard to urge APEC economies to accept "coal trading and emission systems". .
