Comet surface Tempel 1 contains ice

The first evidence proving the presence of ice on comets reinforced the assumption that primitive Earth water might have come from comets.

Experts identified three thin ice bags on comets covering 28 square meters on a total of 117 square kilometers. About 6% of this ice is pure, the rest blends with dust.

Some astronomers argue that comets are witnesses to the formation of the solar system 4.6 billion years ago.
