Details of observable astronomical events from Vietnam in 2018

According to expert Dang Vu Tuan Son, Chairman of Vietnam Young Astronomical Society, 2018 will be an attractive year for people who love to observe the sky, especially the two full-time eclipses.

Below the specific time of remarkable astronomical phenomena that can be observed when observed in Vietnam:

  1. January 3, 4 : Quadrantids meteor shower. This is a medium-sized meteor shower. In 2018, the observation of this meteor shower is significantly affected by the moon.
  2. January 31 : Full moon eclipse. This is the most attractive phenomenon in 2018. Vietnam is in the region can fully monitor this phenomenon with the total time including the half-dark phase lasting 5 hours 17 minutes 12 seconds, in which the maximum of the full phase part falls at 20h31 Vietnamese time . More specifically, this total lunar eclipse coincides with the time when the Moon passes through the sub-region (super moon / supermoon) so the Moon will be bigger and clearer than the usual observations.

  1. April 22, 23 : Lyrids meteor shower. The average meteor shower has the central region as the constellation Lyra. At this time, the Moon is relatively early to fall, so if weather conditions are favorable, dawn April 23 will be an ideal time to observe.
  2. May 6, 7 : Eta Aquarids meteor shower. This is a medium-sized meteor shower with a peak that can reach 30 to 60 meteors per hour.
  3. However, in 2018, the moon will obscure most of what you can observe.
  4. May 9 : Jupiter arrives at the direct position. The largest planet This Solar System will be in a direct position relative to the Sun (the Earth is in the middle), so it will reach the highest brightness and is the most ideal time to observe from Earth. For those with telescopes, this is the best opportunity of the year to observe this planet.
  5. June 27 : Saturn arrives directly. Like Jupiter as mentioned above, Saturn at this time will be in the most prime position to be observed with the naked eye as well as with the telescope.
  6. July 27 : Mars comes to its position directly. The Red Planet will be located directly to the Sun through the Earth and this is the best time of the year to observe.
  7. July 28 : Full moon. This is the second lunar eclipse in 2018. Observers in Vietnam will be closely watched this phenomenon at dawn on July 28.
  8. July 28, 29 : Delta Aquarids meteor shower. This is a medium-sized meteor shower. This year, with the extreme falling near the time of the Full Moon, observers will not have many opportunities to follow this phenomenon.
  9. August 12, 13 : Meteor shower Perseids. One of the largest meteor showers of the year with extreme density can reach over 60 or reach 100 meteors per hour. The best time to observe this phenomenon is on the evening of 12, dawn August 13. The moon will set early and it is a wall condition to observe.
  10. September 7 : Star of the Sea King comes to a direct position. The farthest planet known in the Solar System will arrive at the most favorable position to observe from Earth. However, it can only be observed through telescopes.
  11. October 8 : Draconids meteor shower. This is a small meteor shower with a density of less than 10 meteors per hour.
  12. October 21, 22 : Meteor shower Orionids. This medium-sized meteor shower has a center of Orion constellation. The circular close-up will obscure many of its meteor, but if you have good observation conditions you can still see many light trails of this phenomenon because it will have very bright meteor.

  1. October 23 : Uranus comes to a direct position. Observers can see through telescopes and amateur binoculars.
  2. Day 5, 6/11 : Meteor shower Taurids. This is a small meteor shower with a peak density of less than 10 meteors per hour.
  3. November 17, 18 : Meteor shower Leonids. This meteor shower occurs around the constellation of Leo. In 2018, Leonids is a medium-sized meteor shower with about 30 meteors per hour at its peak.
  4. December 13, 14 : Meteor shower Geminids. This is the biggest meteor shower of the year. In 2018, the Moon will not hinder any observation of this phenomenon.
  5. December 21, 22: Ursids meteor shower. This is a small meteor shower that takes place in the constellation Ursa Minor area. Bright moon will obscure most meteor so only when the weather conditions and atmosphere ideal viewers can see some of the brightest stars.
