Detecting lizards 'penguin limbs amputated'
This bizarre lizard species has just been discovered by California biologists.
California biologists have discovered a new species of lizard, which has been reduced to both arms and legs at the end of the runway of Los Angeles International Airport (USA).
Described by this, this penguin lizard is very similar to snake, they are 8cm long, have eyelids, outer ears, the abdomen is quite wide and the long tail while the snake is the opposite - there is a long body and short tail. They live mainly in humid underground, eating insects, larvae.
New lizards have been discovered
Biologist Theodore Papenfuss said: "This newly discovered lizard represents 200 other peculiar lizards around the world, which are adapted to porous soil. Millions of years ago existed in many species. Exotic lizards across five continents, they lose their legs, have a snake-like shape.
Researchers are working with the Wildlife Center in California to determine how these lizards need to be protected. Currently, legless lizards are often listed on the list of animals that are of state interest.
Biologist James Parham said: "The newly discovered lizard needs to be ensured for life. We will conduct many surveys in California to better understand this unique species."
